This month we are featuring Julia and Kevin, who created a one-of-a-kind engagement ring at Ooh Aah Jewelry. Kevin designed an amazing Celtic-inspired ring using a tiger's eye stone. The setting is an interpretation of a Celtic knot winding around the center stone. We designed several different versions of the ring to get the knot design just right.
We can design rings with all sorts of stones other than a diamond.
Kevin created a matching wedding band that perfectly matches the design of the engagement ring and makes the Celtic knot even more elaborate.
How did you propose?
I waited until she was 100 feet above Clear Creek canyon on a rock climb and shouted the proposal to her over the sound of the creek.
How did you choose your engagement ring and/or wedding bands? Tell us about the process of designing your rings and about your experience at Ooh! Aah! Jewelry
I wanted to design something myself and knew that Julia liked larger pieces, but didn't like diamonds. I had some ideas in mind in terms of Celtic designs and I had looked at traditional pieces for inspiration. Hannah at Ooh Aah patiently helped us to realize a beautiful piece from my crude drawings. Making helpful suggestions and faithfully reproducing any changes (no matter how subtle) in both our engagement ring and the wedding band, which is an extension of the original piece. I chose a wedding band from their rather unique and contemporary store selection that caught my eye. They provide a consummate service that is far removed from more stuffy traditional jewellers.
What is your advice for others who are looking for their rings?
Don't be frightened to think outside of the box.
Tell us about a little bit about your wedding day?
Not had it yet, but it will be a little unconventional. We are having it at a ranch at the northern limit of the state. It will be more cowboy boot than white train. I have to somehow match a pearl snap to my kilt, as will all of the Scottish contingent and Julia intends to arrive at the ceremony on horse back. Throw in a blue grass band and I think were set to celebrate.
