Shop for Jose

Today we want to share with everyone the amazing work that one of our co-workers has been doing in Ecuador and ask you to come out this weekend and shop in Denver and Albuquerque to support this special cause! Since 2005 she has been working with children and families who live in poverty and don't have access to the basic necessities for living. For some children, this means housing and scholarships for school and for others it may be clothing, food, and medicines they might not otherwise have access to. You can read more about her  work and foundation, Los Jovenes del Futuro, and donate directly on her website: www.losjovenesdelfuturo.org

Earlier this year she became involved with a free government-run daycare for working parents in Quito, Ecuador where she met a little girl named Alejandra. Without anywhere to leave her daughter, Alejandra's mother had no choice but to bring her along to the restaurant where she works. In the kitchen, Alejandra suffered first and second-degree burns when she fell into a pot of boiling soup that was left on the floor. She spent two months in the hospital and the foundation was able to help her get the special cream and arm coverings she needs for the healing process.

Through Alejandra's doctor our co-worker found out about Jose, another child who is in recovery from severe burns. In July 2012 he was in the kitchen when a pan of frying bananas fell onto him and caught fire. Because he didn't receive proper medical attention afterwards, he has suffered severe scarring and needs medical care his family can not afford. We are working to raise money to cover his healthcare costs as well as transportation for his family to a hospital in Chile where he can receive the care and surgery that he desperately needs. Jose is not pictured here because of the graphic nature of his injuries.

This weekend, Friday July 26th to Sunday July 28th, we will be donating 10 percent of our proceeds to Los Jovenes del Futuro for Jose to get the medical treatment he so badly needs. We will also be accepting cash donations at both store locations! This is a cause we are all very passionate about—help us give Jose a better life while shopping for something beautiful for yourself or a loved one!
